Guerilla Martian by These Are Atoms: “I’m in a pig shed at feeding time, I love it”

We asked some music people to tell us about tracks they love from the west coast. Here is a selection from Cork artist Athur Itis.

These Are Atoms is the brainchild of one Jamie Leipert. I had the pleasure of seeing him live at Feile Na Greine in August and since then I have been listening to his records quite a lot. Definitely my favourite piece of Jamie’s music is Guerrilla Martian. Firstly, Jamie’s production baffles me, one minute I’m lazing to a beautiful acoustic guitar song suddenly its really heavy insanity then I’m in a pig shed at feeding time, I love it. The acoustic guitars sound so comforting, all the crispy synth sounds, the vocals sound all broken and goosed. It makes me feel like I’m out in the middle of nowhere for a weekend and just decided never to go back and live in the wild like a mad hermit or something. Secondly, it has one of my favourite lyrics ever in the song “What if I told you that to be employed is to be an android?”. He makes a world on his albums and visiting it is very immersive and the gravity is dense. If you haven’t had the pleasure of listening to These Are Atoms, prepare to get sucked in.”
