Laurie Shaw teases new album with gripping first single Forest Floor

Forest Floor is the first single to be released from the forthcoming long player by Laurie Shaw, Into the Microcosm. The album was recorded last summer at Shaw’s parents’ home in County Kerry and tells the story of a group of teenagers going down to the woods to camp and party. Forest Floor is one eighth of the complete arc and focuses on the anxiety felt from its narrator about staying over-night in nature and wanting to charm the person they “really really fancy”.

Forest Floor is a typically gripping release from the Cork based artist, a long time and prolific producer of some of the most interesting music in the west of Ireland. Musically, the song incorporates a subtle disco groove with additional field recordings of snapping branches to create atmospheric percussion and, as always with Shaw, humour, style and substance merge to create something more than just a pop song – you’ll find yourself coming back to this one.

The single release is backed by two additional B-Sides, Bottle Bank and a cover of the Toto hit, Georgy Porgy
